Fresh: The Theme Song of the Legend of the Vegetable Kingdom / 新鮮・お野菜王国伝説のテーマ English Lyrics Translation

ENGLISH

Fresh: The Theme Song of the Legend of the Vegetable Kingdom

The Tomato Princess who loved tomatoes
Was very bashful and shy
Bathing in the sun
With her green crown
Her bright red face
Was so cute

The Spring Onion Prince who loved spring onions
Was a very smart gentleman
He was tall and lanky
With green hair
His pure white suits
Were so splendid

The old grandfather who loved carrots
Was adored by all the castle's horses
His orange face
Was reminiscent of
The sky at sunset
He seemed so kind

They all gathered
In the kitchen
Soon someone would be ripe enough to eat
One must be careful
Of the "best before" date

The Cucumber Princess who loved cucumbers
Was concerned about her bed of rice bran
If she slept too soundly
She might get pickled
And eaten
She was foolish

At the mercy of the beautiful eggplant
She was at her wit's end because if you don't try you won't succeed
The Eggplant Nurse who loved eggplants
Don't feed her to your wife
She's an autumn eggplant

The Potato Cabinet Minister who loved potatoes
The Soybean Cabinet Minister who loved soybeans
Both respected the other's superiority
But they actually
Never met in person

They were so
Full of nutrition
Embracing the sky and the land
You could stew them or fry them
Or eat them just as they were

Lettuce Priest
Teacher Leek
Lettuce Stewardess
Little Rich Pumpkim
Avocado Doctor
Bamboo Sprout Cop!!!
Head Clerk Paprika
Cheif Red Radish
Village Head Perilla
Village Head Watercress
Okra Rapper
Soybean Cabinet Minister
Bell Pepper Babboon
Raddish Kong
Broccoli Dog
Soybean Cabinet Minister
Everything
Anything

Everyone's here
Everyone's alive
If you eat
Then we can be alive together

The yam who loved to play drums
The radish sprouts who loved singing
The radish sprouts who loved to play guitar
The bacon who loved to play base

The Vegetable Kingdom
In the kitchen
Now's the time to eat them all
Put them in salad or soup
Or make juice

All you need
Are vegetables
If you have meat or fish you can add those too
They're all delicious
And lasty add bread or rice

Pasta!
Pasta!
Pasta!

OPINION

WOW, this is definitely one of my favorite songs by BUMP ever! If you're studying Japanese, take a look, it's great for learning vegetables. :D There are TONS of puns and references to other things like proverbs and sayings in this song, too many for me to describe. The things about the Cucumber Princess being nervous about sleeping on rice bran is because rice bran is used for pickling in Japan. The lines about the eggplants use all sorts of wordplay that sound similar to the word for eggplant (nasu) which is why it seems so random. And the bit about not feeding your wife autumn eggplants is based on the proverb that the eggplant will be wasted if she's a mean wife, that it will give her chills, and other interpretations (sources: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=271841256160517 and http://www.gokanji.com/cgi-bin/j-e/inline/dosearch?H=W&L=E&Q=1&WC=none&T=eggplant.) The the rest of the citizens of the kingdom that they name are puns. For example, bamboo sprout = 竹の子 (take no ko), cop = コップ (koppu), and so when you run them together you get Bamboo Sprout Cop (竹のコップ, take no koppu). The members got super excited about that one!! This song was the hidden track on the limited release edition of BUMP's single "Zero." I got the lyrics from the video's description at the link below, where you can listen to the song. :)
