Ever Lasting Lie
In an ocean of sand, holding a rusty shovel
Someone digs, as if they are fighting a battle, for a dream
Even if the red sun burns his back
He will struggle on desparately
There was a price on his beloved's life
He asked everyone for help, but it was no use
"Why don't you go try to dig for oil?" they said sarcastically
However, he took them seriously and dashed off
But what he dug up were long months and years
"Sir Destiny, I bet
You have a lot of fun playing dice with people's lives
Laugh. Are you watching
Me as I kick and struggle?"
In the dead town, wearing a night dress
Is the woman like something out of a fairy tale who must sell her love
Whomsoever's chest or arms she must give herself to
Her heart belongs to only one person
The person she loved told her a kind lie
"We will be OK, so please believe in tomorrow and wait for me"
Even as she thinks to herself "But where is the thing I must believe in?"
She repeats her beloved's words like a spell
The long months and years murmured by
"Sir Destiny, don't
These feelings move you at all?
Every single morning I remember the kind lie I told her"
The one who digs for a dream
The one who waits
They believed in each other over any fate
In the town, at a small church
A kind old woman fell asleep
She can't move very easily, but every morning
She mutters something as she smiles
In an ocean of sand, holding a broken shovel
The man like something out of a fairy tale digs for a dream
The eyes within his chiseled wrinkles still
Are desperate, just desperate
But what he dug was---
"Sir Destiny, are you watching me?
You'll never make me say, 'I give up'
Any time now I'll dig up my dream and make you terribly bitter”
"Sir Destiny, what was my dream again?
What moved me to where I am now?
I feel like I've made someone wait for something very important…"
The one who digs for a dream
The one who waits
The lie that got them through so many nights

JAPANESE
Ever Lasting Lie
「Sir Destiny、
「Sir Destiny、
「Sir Destiny、
「Sir Destiny、

OPINION
This one of BUMP's few real story songs about people instead of animals. It's also one of my favorites in terms of instrumemtation, seriously, just listen to it, half of this song has no singing and it's a long song. There is also an acoustic version of this song. But, wow, now that I've picked apart this song I realize how tragic it is. Really, though, the two people belived in each other in the end. They never doubted each other, so it's not a story about despair. The fact that they never stopped believing in each other is what makes this a great story.
