English Lyrics Translation

ENGLISH

Southern Cross

I yearned for the fire locked up in your heart
Though it looks like it may be swallowed up and disappear
It was warm like the sunset, lonely and strong
That fire

I chose my words
But still I messed up in the end
I still recall this on sunny days
I hide my eyes and I can't move
I just pray that you won't hate me

You showed me everything in your heart
Even though I couldn't do anything

What sort of life are you living now?
Can you still hear that song you used to love?
You used to laugh at a sneeze, even when you were drenched in tears
Even though we are apart, I am by your side
I am with you in spirit

We are joined only by mere words
I don't know your hand well
But don't leave me
Being alone is scary
Is your spirit worn out?
Everything
Seems like a miracle to me
Whatever

I am slowly losing feeling
Forgetting my regretted road home
I've got to, because hopeless times are coming
But, yeah, there are some things I can't do

A silent pinky swear
What don't you understand, in this time of misunderstanding?

Like reading the stars to find one's bearing
Your voice leads me on
From the place where we said farewell
We are far, but I can still hear
Our promise

I yearned for the fire locked up in your heart
I bet you didn't even know
Even if that fire was invisible
It left a blue afterimage behind my eyelids

From the place where we said farewell
You voice keeps shining
Even if you lose sight of yourself
I will find you
With your voice

What sort of life are you living now?
Can you hear my song?
I'll bring you back with just one sneeze
Even though we are apart, I am by your side

I am with you in spirit

OPINION

What a memorable opening to a beautiful song, I really love the guitar. Fujiwara's voice is light and soft at the start of this song, but gets stronger as it goes on and at a couple emotional points. Overall, I am seeing a lot of themes emerging from this album already. There are themes of transparency and invisibleness, but also a lot of light. Light like the unseeable light in a person's heart, that in this song sometimes seems in danger of going out.

This song is so inspiring! In my opinion, it's the unspoken thoughts of a friend you haven't seen since you were children. Your friend cheered you up when you were sad, cared very deeply for you, and saw your worth when you yourself weren't aware of it. I think the "fire" in the heart he is referring to is not love or affection, but strength and life.

It sounds like he has other friends or a lover now, judging by the part that has "I don't know your hand well." The "your" here is addressing someone else, I think. But they stay together because they'd rather have someone they don't connect with deeply than be alone. Your friend is older and may be world-weary. But he still cares for you, and you left an impression on him like the afterimage of a bright flame.

I got the Japanese lyrics from http://mojim.com/twy104445x35x4.htm.

Also, if you are interested, here is the Wikipedia article about the Southern Cross: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crux. It's a constellation, in keeping with BUMP's love for outer space, and very interesting!
