English Lyrics Translation

ENGLISH

Wheel Song

The rusty wheel gives a screech
As it carries us toward the station at dawn
I pedal
As you lean on my back
And you share
Your definite warmth with me

As we ascend a hill next to the railroad tracks
"Just a bit more, you're almost there"
Your amused voice calls from behind me
The town is way too quiet
"It's like we're the only two people in the world"
I let slip

Just as we reach the hilltop
We fall silent
The sunrise that greets us is just too beautiful

I'm sure you laughed then
As you sat behind me
But I couldn't turn to you
'Cause I was crying

I don't really know about the town listed by the end of the ticket machine
The one whose ticket is the most expensive
I had the cheapest ticket, and I was going to use it soon
But I still treasured it

You carry the big suitcase that you got the day before yesterday to the ticket gate
And without wavering you look at me
Our eyes don't meet, but I give a nod
I'd been obstinately gripping the cloth of the suitcase, but then I let go

The echoing bell annouces the last warning, and only your door opens
You take the first step of thousands that will separate us, and say:

"It's a promise. We're definitely going to see each other again some day"
I could not answer, and looked at the ground as I waved goodbye

I'm sure that
At that time, you…

As I ascend a hill next to the railroad tracks, I fly faster than the wind
Chasing after you
The rusty wheel gives a screech
I try with all my might to keep up with the train
But we slowly drift apart

I'm sure you were crying then
On the other side of the door
I couldn't see your face, but I knew
'Cause your voice was shaking

It's a promise
We're definitely going to see each other again some day
I waved my arm expansively so you could see me
As we parted

The town is bustling, but
It's like I'm the only person in the world
I think to myself

The rusty wheel gives a screech
It carries the left-behind me
And gives me a faint warmth

OPINION

As I write this I can hear a train from my house. This is definitely one of BUMP OF CHICKEN's best songs and it's a good one to show people if you want to introduce them to the band. Their story-songs like this one are really great. Watch the music video at the link below!
